"Session on the Ruby Slippers" with Mona Diane Conner

"The Ruby Slippers," 3/4" x 1 3/8," egg tempera on Kelmscott vellum
in Venetian glass frame

I've posted a new video clip today on my other blog, "The Ruby Slippers." In it I discuss more about what motivates me as an artist, including my motivation to work on this series of spiritual portraits.  If you'd like to watch it, just click on my Ruby Slipper painting.

I've also started a new pastel portrait, and I hope to post some progress on it here for you soon.

Hi Mona,

Thank you for the comments on my blog about the late David Baker portrait. I wonder if he crossed paths with your dad fire jumping in Washington state? Davids wife told me Dave fought forest fires all over the west in the 60's, 70's and 80's including Washinton state. His name is well known amongst forest firefighters..I wonder? All my best to you,
Todd

Hi Todd, My Dad fought fires in the North Cascades during the summers of 1948, 1949, and possibly 1950, but not after that.

He belonged to the National Smokejumpers Asociation (http://www.smokejumpers.com) He went on to study law and become a businessman, but surprisingly, just those few summers made him state later in life that smokejumping was his favorite job!

Is your father still alive?
